The first three (l to r) were instruments that we helped make
and brought home from our visit to Djalu' Gurruwiwi and family
in Gunyangara, which is near Yirrkala, on the Gove Peninsula
in North East Arnhem Land. You can find some pictures of the
process of making of these didgeridoos here.
- Big Bb with rich harmonics. Made by Larry & Gailene
Gurruwiwi.
- Big D, very traditional sound, by Djalu'. This is the instrument used by Djalu' on Randy's recordings of him that he shares at workshops.
- Eb, a sort of muted traditional sounding and playing yidaki
made by Djalu'.
- Another Eb- Randy's first Djalu' instrument, and an outstanding
player. As heard on Didjeridu Planet 2.
- A big Db with tight mouthpiece by Djalu' and probably David Howell. It's
Brandi's Djalu' yidaki, from Wicked Sticks.
- A great little stick from Walker River, south on the coast
from the Yirrkala area, made by Tony Wilfred Wargelarrk. This
was Randy's first "authentic" Australian didgeridoo.
You can hear this one on "A Bit Rusty" from "Whirlwind."
This is also the one that gets stretched to the limit on "Sparky and the Gnu Hare Du,"
from Didginus' "More Than Alive," and appears all over on Randy's cd
"Didgital," on the tracks "Sparks," "Bionic," and "Another Didge on the Wall, parts 1-3."
AND it's the main didgeridoo all over the Your Didjeridu Companion series of teaching cd's.
